A Wi-Fi hotspot is a geographic location that provides public wireless broadband services, such as Internet access, to mobile visitors through a wireless network. These hotspots are increasingly common, found in public places worldwide such as marinas, airports, cafés, pubs, and hotels. It is estimated that at the end of 2003 there were over 71,000 Wi-Fi hotspots worldwide with a forecast of 152,000 by 2006 (source: Gartner Group).

Introducing MeshZones from Expansive Networks

Expansive MeshZones is a Wi-Fi hotspot and can be found at the Deep Cove Marina located in North Vancouver. At Expansive MeshZones, you can check email, browse the Web, or access your company network, at lightning speeds. Even better, you can do it while enjoying a cup of coffee surrounded by a tranquil water setting.

To access a meshzone, you need a laptop or PDA that has wireless capability; for example, laptops using Intel Centrino technology have built-in Wi-Fi 802.11b/g wireless networking, enabling you to join a meshzone network automatically. Similarly, some handheld PDAs such as Sony, HP and Palm with built in 802.11b networking capabilities. Computers can be upgraded to support Wi-Fi via low-cost PC cards or our recommended high power Client Subscriber Units.
